Title: Detention Officer

The Sangamon County Court Services Department is accepting applications for one full-time position for Detention Officer at the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center. The shift opening is unknown at this time, but you must have the ability to work any day/shift needed.

Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, is responsible for performing intake services, custody services, and helping to plan, implement, and evaluate programming on his/her respective shift.

Requirements: You must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, or related social sciences. Must reside within the 7th Judicial Circuit (Greene County, Jersey County, Macoupin County, Morgan County, Sangamon County and Scott County) within six (6) months of employment. Must be on the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts hiring eligibility list at the time of employment offer. Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a valid driver’s license. Must pass a criminal and DCFS background check as well as a drug screening. YOU MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO WORK ON ANY SHIFT.

Skills: Ability and desire to work with delinquent youth in a secure detention setting which may require physical restraint of minors; knowledge of the criminal justice system.
