Landmark Application

The landmarking application in Adobe Reader (PDF) format for Sangamon County can be obtained by clicking the photo. When the application is complete and is signed by the appropriate owner(s), please mail it to the address on the application or submit it to the email address listed on the application. Sangamon County has landmarked several properties since 2004. Here is a list of the current Sangamon County Landmarks.

Historical Survey Form

One function of the Sangamon County Historical Preservation Commission is to conduct an ongoing survey of structures, areas, sites, and landscapes that have historic, archaeological, architectural, or scenic significance. The survey form is available here. Instructions for completion are available here.

Certificate of Appropriateness

A certificate of appropriateness is required for landmarks, pending landmarks, or preservation districts prior to many activities including but not limited to: significant alterations, construction, demolition, or removal.

Certificate of Economic Hardship 

A certificate of economic hardship can be issued by the Historic Preservation Commission when failure to approve a certificate of appropriateness will deny a property owner of all reasonable use of, or return on, the property.
