The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties primarily as an Animal Care Technician.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate to other staff members and management regarding kennel needs and issues that arise
  • Ensure the health and safety of all animals brought into the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center kennels
  • Maintain cleanliness of Animal Control and Adoption Center kennels and cages.
  • Provide socialization, walking and playing with adoptable animals.
  • Provide general care to all animals brought into the Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center
  • Assist the public viewing and visiting with dogs and cats.

The work assigned to this position may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks for this position.

This position is covered by Laborer’s Local #477 Union

Requirements
  • A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to use personal automobile with proof of current insurance
  • Ability to lift 10-50 pounds at various times
  • Ability to work on your feet most times
  • Requires the ability to work holidays and weekends as assigned

Benefits

$37,856.07 annually / $19.41 hourly

2 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid sick leave days, 3 paid personal days, 13 paid holidays per year
