Veterans Assistance Commission

The Sangamon County VAC is a distinct unit of local government created by State Law (330 ILCS 45/ Military Veterans Assistance Act) and funded by Sangamon County. The VAC has available to eligible veterans and their families, annual one-time emergency assistance program designed to help veterans that find themselves in need of financial assistance. The VAC offers service officers accredited by the VA to prepare, present, and prosecute claims for VA Disability and Pension benefits on behalf of veterans and/ or their families.  We are also available to assist with identifying and applying for other benefits or programs offered by the VA such as VA Healthcare.  The VAC is managed by a Board of Veterans representing the various Veteran organizations in Sangamon County; the board meets quarterly in January, April, July, and October.

Mission Statement

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Sangamon County provides services to the local Veterans community in areas of Financial Assistance, VA Claims & Advocacy, Transportation to VA Medical Centers, and referral assistance.

**All assistance must be applied for and all requirements must be met in order to determine the assistance that you may be eligible for.   

Transportation

The VAC offers transportation to Danville VAMC, Peoria CBOC, and St Louis VAMC.  To schedule a van ride please call 217-753-6680
