As the joint planning agency for Springfield and Sangamon County, and Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning in the region, the SSCRPC is involved in a number of planning programs.
COMPREHENSIVE & STRATEGIC PLANNING
ZONING & LAND USE PLANNING
Comprehensive planning is one of the most important investments a community can make in its future. The SSCRPC provides comprehensive and strategic planning services to communities in the region and coordinates the Sangamon County region planning process.
The Commission makes professional staff recommendations on all Sangamon County and City of Springfield zoning and variance requests. It also serves as Floodplain Administrator and Plats Officer for Sangamon County.
Through the work of the Commission's Land Subdivision Committee, SSCRPC staff are responsible for the review of all proposed subdivisions, large-scale projects and planned unit developments for Springfield and Sangamon County.
Through the Springfield Area Transportation Study (SATS), the SSCRPC is the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning in the region.
Because of its overall responsibilities the SSCRPC is involved in a number of environmental planning activities, including floodplain management, erosion control, hike and bike trails, and the like.
Along with Sangamon County and the City of Springfield, the Commission assists other cities, villages and special districts with planning activities. This includes the Commission's public participation and outreach work, and work with a number of city and county boards and commissions.
