Sangamon County joined with Cass, Christian, Logan, and Menard Counties in 1983 to create the Land of Lincoln Consortium to serve as the Planning, Fiscal Monitoring, and Administrative entity for federal workforce programs. All services, training, and job placement assistance is provided free through use of funds from the Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
Consortium staff is housed at the Springfield Employment & Training Center, one of 55 Illinois Employment & Training Centers (IETC's), at 1300 South 9th Street, Springfield, IL 62703. The staff works closely on WIA programs with staff from the Sangamon County Community Resources as well as with WIA offices operated by Cass, Christian, Logan and Menard Counties.
WIA programs help low-income youth, adults, and dislocated workers secure job search assistance, training, and employment.
The Land of Lincoln Consortium Administrator also serves as Co-Director of the Springfield Employment & Training Center.
