When an Animal is Brought to the Center
Animal in-processing
Each animal upon being brought to the Animal Control Center is placed into a receiving kennel run or cage. It is checked by personnel for health problems then vaccinated for Distemper, Adenovirus II, Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis, and Parvo virus as well as being wormed. If an animal has indication of ownership it is moved out of the receiving at the earliest opportunity, otherwise it is kept in receiving for 2-3 days to observe the animal for any possible symptomology of disease or illness. If a stray animal is fine after this period it is then moved out of the receiving area. If an animal exhibits an abnormal stool it is checked for intestinal parasites and medicated accordingly.
Administrative in-processing
Each animal that is received at the Animal Control Center has a "Animal Record" initiated which indicates the date entered, time received, breed, sex, color, size, identification features, rabies tag(year and number), personal identification tags, and ownership, if known. |
