Outstanding or Stale Dated Checks
The Sangamon County Treasurer’s office takes a proactive approach to stale dated checks by contacting the payee at the end of six months. Outstanding checks for accounts payable and payroll older than 6 months are referred to the originating department for further investigation. The original check is voided and the originating department researches the check and then reissues a new check to the proper address. Consequently, the outstanding check list usually contains very few checks greater thant 6 months old. A list of outstanding checks please click here. However, checks greater than 6 months that have not been voided or reissued are recorded in a Stale Check Fund. Outstanding Warrants or Payment Orders
Orders for payments of warrants are paid weekly by the Treasurer’s office and turned into checks. Consequently, we have no list of outstanding warrant or payment orders.
Outstanding Property Tax Refunds
The Sangamon County Treasurer’s office policy on tax refunds is to contact the property owner and allow them to either request a refund or apply the refund to next year’s tax amount as a prepayment. The property owner has 60 days to reply to our refund letter and if they don’t request a check then we automatically apply the refund to the next year’s taxes. Consequently, all refunds are either turned into prepays or checks written to the property owner and there is no list of outstanding refunds.
Outstanding Property Tax Distributions
Property tax amounts are sent via ACH to all taxing districts and do not generate any outstanding amounts.
