Each year the Sangamon County Treasurer’s Office in conjunction with the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office conducts a sale of tax lien certificates. Delinquent real estate taxes in the form of a tax lien certificate are sold by the County to recover unpaid taxes. For more information, contact the County Treasurer’s office at 217-753-6800.
DATE OF SALE:
The date of the 2009 tax sale is October 30, 2009.
TIME AND LOCATION OF SALE:
The sale will commence at 9:00 a.m. in the Sangamon County Board Room, Room 201, Sangamon County Complex, 200 So. 9th St, Springfield, IL.
COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SALE:
No fee is required to bid at the auction. A list of parcels with delinquent taxes may be purchased up to several weeks before the sale for $200. The following fees are in effect and will be collected on each parcel in the sale in addition to the delinquent taxes, accrued interest, and cost: $20.00 Indemnity Fee; $10.00 Advertising Fee; $4.00 Clerk Fee; $10.00 Treasurer’s Automation Fee; and $60.00 Sale in Error Interest Fund Fee.
REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
The following are mandatory requirements to participate in the tax sale:
A letter of registration must be received in the Treasurer’s Office at least ten (10) days prior to the day of the tax sale. The deadline for the 2009 sale is October 20, 2009.
A signed blank check made payable to the “ County Collector” must be submitted and received by the County Treasurer no latter than 8:45 on the day of the sale.
A rubber stamp embossed with the name of your company must be submitted and received by the County Clerk’s Office at least ten (10) days prior to the day of the tax sale.
DELINQUENT TAX LIST:
This list is available upon request around the first part of October. The current fee is $200.00 plus a $5.00 mailing fee (if applicable). This fee is subject to change and payment must be made in advance. Contact the County Treasurer’s office for more information.
BIDDING PROCESS:
The range of acceptable bids is from a minimum of 0% up to and including a maximum of 18% as per Illinois State Statutes. Verbal bids are taken per parcel number and tax liens are awarded to that tax buyer with the lowest bid by the County Treasurer. A tax lien certificate is issued per parcel.
