Liquor Licenses
To apply for a Sangamon County Liquor License you must be in the unincorporated
area of the County and must have proper zoning. If you need clarification
on these qualifications for a license, please call the Sangamon County

1. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
|
You will need to fill out a background questionnaire from the Sheriff's
Office. Click here to download one now. |

You will need to be fingerprinted in the Sheriff's Office. A $10
fee will also be required once you are printed (7-10 a.m., 7 days a
week). |

You then need to turn in your background questionnaire and fingerprint
card to the Sangamon County Zoning & Building Safety Office, Sangamon
County Complex, 200 S. Ninth Street, Room 213, Springfield, IL. |
2. COUNTY ZONING DEPARTMENT
|
Check with Zoning to ensure your establishment is zoned
correctly and is located within the unincorporated areas of
the County. The Zoning Office is located in Room 213 of the
County Building and can be contacted at (217) 753-6760. |
3. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH
|
A health permit from the Department of Public Health will
need to be obtained. They are located at 2501 N. Dirksen Parkway
and can be contacted at (217) 535-3100. |
4. ZONING AND BUILDING SAFETY OFFICE
|
You will need to fill out a liquor license application.

Upon turning in your completed application, you will need
to pay a $50 non-refundable application fee. This fee must
be paid by cash, cashier's check, or a company business check.
Completed applications may be returned to the Sangamon County
Zoning and Building Safety Office, Sangamon County Complex,
200 S. Ninth Street, Room 213, Springfield, IL. |

With your completed application, you will need to attach
a surety bond in the amount of $500 and provide proof of insurance. |

A purchase agreement or lease will need to be attached with
your application, if you do not own the property. |
| |
If you are a corporation, you will need to attach a copy
of your Articles of Incorporation. |

Once your completed application has been turned in, it will
be forwarded to the Sangamon County Liquor Commission for review.
It is strongly encouraged that you attend the meeting at which
they review your application. The commission meets on the third
Wednesday of every month at 5:15 pm in Room 201. For a list

5. DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE
|
Applicant will need to apply for an Illinois State Sales
Tax Number at the Department of Revenue on 101 West Jefferson.

6. STATE OF ILLINOIS LIQUOR CONTROL COMMISSION
|
If you are approved, you will then be responsible for obtaining
an Illinois State Liquor License. For more information regarding

HOW DO I OBTAIN A TEMPORARY LIQUOR LICENSE
- You will first need
to fill out a Temporary Liquor License Application and Sheriff's
background check. Click

- Upon turning in completed
application to the Zoning and Building Safety Department, application
will be reviewed by the County Liquor Commission.
- You will be notified
upon approval or denial.
- If approved, the required fee must be paid
upon pick-up. This fee must be paid by cash, cashier's
check or by a company business check.
- If approved, you will then be responsible for obtaining
an Illinois State Liquor License. For more information
