George W. Preckwinkle was appointed to the Sangamon County Board in 2007 representing District 25. George is currently serving as Chairman of the Jail Committee. He also serves on the Court Services Committee, Employee Services, is Chairman of the Rural Transportation Committee and is a member of Sangamo Scripts Committee. Mr. Preckwinkle is a past member of the Community Resources Committee and Public Health and Zoning Committee.  With his strong business background, Mr. Preckwinkle is committed to maintaining a balanced county budget, strong economic development and a sound financial footing for Sangamon County.

Since County Board representatives are not considered full-time positions, Mr. Preckwinkle spends his time as President of Ace Hardware, overseeing operations of a company employing about 200 people throughout Central Illinois. A Springfield native, Mr. Preckwinkle is a graduate of Springfield High School, Southern Methodist University and Southern Methodist University Law School. A strong sense of community and civic duty, Mr. Preckwinkle has served in the past as President of Memorial Medical Center Foundation, President of the Y. M. C. A. and as Campaign Chairman for United Way. In 2006, Mr. Preckwinkle served as Honorary Co-Chairman for the Salvation Army Tree of Lights Campaign. Mr. Preckwinkle is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Abraham Lincoln Boy Scout Council. Rooted in community, Mr. Preckwinkle has also been involved with the Friends of Sangamon Auditorium, Children’s Miracle Network, American Lung Association, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Preckwinkle is an avid sailor and an Eagle Scout.
