During John’s first two years on the Board, he was appointed to serve on the Building & Grounds, Jail-ESDA and the SWAMP Committees. Since that time, he has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Building & Grounds Committee, which has oversight of the Building Maintenance Department, the Information Systems Department and the Central Services Office. The County Recorder also reports to the Building & Grounds Committee.
In 2007, John was appointed to serve on the Finance Committee, which has oversight over the county budget. John is a past member of the Liquor Committee and in 2009, he was appointed to serve on the Employee Services Committee and the Public Health, Safety & Zoning Committee.
Board members are also asked to serve on various ad hoc committees from time to time. John served on the Fireworks Ad Hoc Committee up until the county had to cease issuing fireworks permits due to the new laws pertaining to fireworks enacted by the state. John has also been a member of the successful Sangamo Scripts Ad Hoc Committee, which has enabled over 8,000 citizens living in Sangamon County to participate in a discounted prescription drug program. John was recently asked to serve on the Coroner Facility Task Force to review whether a new location outside of the County Complex would be better suited for the services the Coroner provides.
John is a lifelong northender, businessman and parent. He and his wife Sandy own and operate Fulgenzi’s Pizza & Pasta. When they first opened in 1979, their business was called Custard Castle. Together, John and Sandy have grown their small walk-up ice-cream stand into a full service restaurant and once received a nomination for the Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Person of the Year Award. John has always been very active in youth activities for the northend and has donated pizzas and ice-cream each month to Ridgely Grade School students as a reward for their achievements in the classroom. He also employs many teenagers with their first time jobs. |
